I woke before dawn, tiptoed out of my RV, and stepped onto the soft sand just minutes from Port A RV Resort. The horizon glowed in lavender and coral, the Gulf lapping gently under a pastel sky. That moment—quiet, still, so full of promise—set the tone for the entire stay.

Settling In & First Impressions

When we pulled into our campsite, the staff greeted us like old friends. The resort’s concrete pads, full hookups, and clean bathhouses made settling in easier than I expected. They even have two temperature-controlled pools and a hot tub, which felt indulgent after the long drive. (From the resort description: two pools, hot tub, rec rooms, laundry, etc.)

That afternoon, I strolled through Charlie’s Pasture, the nature preserve adjacent to the resort. Birdsong, marshland, and winding trails—my camera got busy.

An Evening Ritual: Campfire Tacos

We decided to make dinner at the site. Here’s a recipe we whipped together:

Campfire Shrimp Tacos

  • Ingredients: shrimp (peeled, deveined), olive oil, chili powder, garlic powder, lime juice, tortillas, shredded cabbage, avocado slices, hot sauce.
  • Method: Toss shrimp in oil + spices, wrap in foil, place on grill over coals or on the resort’s community BBQ area (they have grills by the pools). Cook ~5-7 min until pink. Warm tortillas, layer cabbage, shrimp, avocado, squeeze lime, drizzle sauce.

We ate while the sun dipped gold over the Gulf. Waves as soundtrack, tortillas in hand—pure magic.

Day Two: Beach & Pier

We spent the next day wandering the 18 miles of local beaches—shell hunting, reading under umbrellas, dipping into the surf. Later, we drove to Horace Caldwell Pier, cast a line, and watched pelicans dive. Fishing capital of Texas indeed.

That night, I soaked in the hot tub back at the resort, stars overhead, gentle breeze rustling palms. I fell asleep to the hum of distant waves.

When I left, I realized: Port A RV Resort isn’t just a place to park—it’s where mornings become memories.
